Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony, Prof. Azis said that AMU has a great place for women and Begum Sultan Jahan, ruler of Bhopal became the first chancellor in 1920. She had contributed a lot for the female education and development of this institution.

Prof. Azis pointed out that the Begum of Murshidabad also donated a substantial grant to AMU and now University is paying back through the establishment of an AMU Centre at Murshidabad in West Bengal.

He said that the AMU campus will be connected with WiFi by June 15, 2011. The Aligarh Muslim University is creating a new window for opportunities to all students and to make AMU a greater institution.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis also released ‘Sultania-2011’, annual Hall Magazine. Ms. Aalia Hasan, Naziya Kamal and Arshi Khatoon, editors of the magazine distributed the copies to the dignitaries.

AMU Registrar, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel said that one block each is being constructed by CPWD and the Building Department of the University. He said that 40 rooms will be constructed to accommodate 80 Post Graduate female students. He further said that one crore rupees were sanctioned under ICAR grant and around one crore rupees as a special scheme for women’s hostel under XI Plan.

The Registrar also appreciated the role of University Engineer, Mr. Firoz Ahmad and his team for completing the job within the given time limit.

The Vice Chancellor also inaugurated Begum Sultan Jahan Hall of residence for 224 PG and Research scholars with a cost of Rs. 356.68 lacs.

Dr. Seemin Hasan, Provost of the hall proposed a vote of thanks. She said that it is the first hall of residence in the University which is running as a model of ‘out sourcing’. She appreciated the role of present administration of the University for providing better living conditions to female students.
